Welcome to Temple University and the Temple
Association of University Professionals (TAUP). We are the
elected collective bargaining agent for faculty in twelve
of Temple’s schools and colleges (Law, Dentistry, Medicine,
and Podiatry are not included). Since 1973 we’ve negotiated
thirteen agreements with Temple, covering pay, benefits, and
working conditions.
Our contract covers all
full–time faculty, including
department chairs and non tenure-track faculty, as well
as librarians and academic professionals (e.g. undergraduate
advisors). Its provisions cover YOU. The contract protects
the faculty’s role in the formulation of educational
policy, safeguards the standards and procedures governing
tenure and promotion, and ensures faculty involvement in
the selection of department chairs. It also provides a mechanism
for dealing with individual problems, complaints, and grievances.
TAUP works closely with bargaining unit members to settle
issues and protect their interests. The union maintains
an office on campus (Barton Hall, Room A231) with a professional
staff of three who provide cheerful and prompt service. The
office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
You can reach us by phone at (215) 763-2287 or (215) 204-7641.
Our office fax number is (215) 204-7645
and our e-mail address is taupaft@aol.com.
Do not hesitate to contact TAUP’s Executive Director,
John DiBenedetto, or the Member Services Coordinator, Terry
Kilpatrick, if you have questions or problems. TAUP publishes
a newsletter (the Bulletin), and uses e-mail and its web
page to keep members informed.
Becoming a member of TAUP is one of the most important and constructive decisions you
can make as you start at Temple. We ask that you join because
everyone benefits from our work. The Temple faculty is only
as strong as its collective voice, and TAUP is an essential
part of that collective voice.
We look forward to meeting and working with you.
